What should I wear? You will be lying fully clothed on a massage table, in some cases you will be side-lying or seated – your comfort is paramount. If you are pregnant, extra supports are provided so you are comfortable.
How many sessions will I need? Healing is a natural process and the body usually takes time to make lasting changes. Some clients see a big difference after just one session, however most find that 4 to 6 sessions are enough to resolve their immediate problem. Longer standing health problems may take longer. I will make a commitment to your healing and I ask you to do the same.
Do I need to come every week? Initially, weekly or two weekly sessions are recommended to help the body move forward and maintain the changes that are occurring. Once healing is underway, sessions can usually be spaced out.
What can I expect after a session? It is recommended that you take some time after your session to rest and to hydrate and support the body and your brain to realign. You may find that you feel some irritability, emotions arising, some tiredness or increased energy, this is simply the body and your psyche processing and it is suggested to take a gentle stroll or a bath and to have a rest. The therapy is continuing around 48 hours after the session. If you feel overwhelmed, please let me know, I welcome feedback or to ask questions at any point in the session or in the days that follow. If we are able to allow our feelings to flow, tension and stress will release, healing will occur and we will come into a state of greater health and wellbeing. If we stop the flow of our natural emotions and experiences by analysing them, ignoring them, or not allowing ourselves to rest, or feel them, the stress and tension will return.
Can CST help for specific conditions? CST can be effective in treating a wide range of conditions including stress, migraines, anxiety and digestive issues. It supports overall wellbeing by promoting relaxation and balance.
Is it a head massage? CST is not massage and doesn't use any oils.
Do you only work on the head? During treatment I will move to different parts of your body to work with the source of the problem.
What if I am not comfortable during the session? Your feedback, consent and safety is paramount and feedback is always welcomed, please let me know at any stage during the session if you are not comfortable or having any questions or feedback.
Is CST suitable during pregancy? Yes, CST can be very helpful throughout all stages of pregnancy. Treatment is gentle, safe and I am more than happy to answer any questions you may have. I always take the greatest of care with my pregnant patients, and I will adapt your treatment accordingly. There is no proven link between treatment and an increased incidence of miscarriage, usually for your own peace of mind we will wait until the 12 weeks scan unless we have been working together for a long time already and you already feel confident in the cranio sacral therapy process.
What if I am taking medication? Please advise me if you are taking medication and supplements – they may impact your experience of the treatment and how your body responds during and after treatment. For example, pain relief may impact on how much you can feel during a session although it will generally not impact the ultimate effectiveness of the session.
Are there contraindications? There are very few contraindications for craniosacral therapy as it is working with you and your body in a very gentle way. However, craniosacral therapy does increase your awareness of your body, mind and spirit including emotional and physical sensations and invoke changes on an holistic level so it is really important to allow yourself time and space for changes to occur and integrate. If you are unsure, please contact us to chat about any concerns.
How will a session feel? I will listen deeply to the client, both when the client speaks about feelings and sensations, history, experience of life, and also through palpation where these patterns of experience are revealed by the body. Clients often become aware of sensations such as heat, tingling or pulsation as changes occur.
